AMERICAN HORROR STORY at Universal Studios, STRANGER THINGS Toys, and More TV News

If you’re the sort who is enthusiastic about Universal’s upcoming Halloween Horror Nights, then I envy you. I get scared too easily to truly appreciate the work they do at the event, which is shaping up to be awesome this year. Read TV-Cap to find out about the American Horror Story addition to Universal’s Halloween offerings, see some cute Stranger Things vinyl figures, watch a clip for the next season of The Walking Dead, and more.

Brace Yourself. Universal Studios is adding a special American Horror Story-themed maze to Halloween Horror Nights this year in both their Hollywood and Orlando locations. Beginning on September 16, you can wander through mazes inspired by seasons one, four, and five—Murder House, Freak Show, and Hotel, respectively. Get a taste in the above video (which I wimped out and didn’t watch) and prepare yourself to be disturbed. [Nerdist]

Ah, Love. While we’re on the topic of American Horror Story, how about another teaser for season six? As usual, it makes no damn sense, but this one is particularly odd because it has a romantic angle. Hmm. The show will return to FX on September 14. [Nerdist]

She’s Artificial. The robot Aida (Artificial Intelligence Data Analyzer) will be in season four of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and they’ve cast Mallory Jansen in the role. I hope AIDA is evil like Madalena was on Galavant. [Comic Book Movie]

Sports Talk. We’re about due for another television series about small towns and high school sports, and CMT is looking to fill the void. They’re working to develop a TV adaptation of Varsity Blues with the writer of the 1999 film. [The Hollywood Reporter]

Have Some Action. Also in the category of “sometimes it feels like there are no original stories,” Amazon has placed a 10-episode order for the new Jack Ryan series. They landed rights to the action drama in 2015, and now they’re moving forward with John Krasinski as CIA analyst Ryan. The modernized series is being touted as a reinvention and will follow Ryan on his first field assignment. [Variety]

Make This a Thing. If ever there was material suited for a pixelated 8-bit video game, it’s Stranger Things. It could be done adventure RPG style, and it would be glorious. 2D game artist Midio made a GIF as a mockup, and oh my stars, it needs to be made! [Nerdist]

“Creative Differences.” NBC’s new DC comedy Powerless is slated for a midseason debut, but it will do so without its creator and showrunner. Ben Queen is leaving before production begins in a couple weeks, and Deadline reports it was a mutual decision between Queen and Warner Bros. TV based on “creative differences.” Those two words cover a whole lot of ground, don’t they? [Deadline]

Metal Terror. What makes Doctor Who’s Cybermen so terrifying? Kyle A. talked to Cavan Scott, a writer on Titan Comics’ Who titles about the villains, and you can read Scott’s thoughts here at Nerdist.

A Hint? The Walking Dead season six cliffhanger will likely be cited as “don’t do this” example in TV writing rooms for years to come. We know someone died, but who? A new preview for season seven maybe has a clue. Watch the clip and read Blair’s thoughts right this way and see what you think.

Grabby Hands. The Vinyl Idolz figures are some of my favorite versions of characters from pop culture in toy form. I love the designs, and the creator, Kibooki, created a perfect/wonderful/insert positive adjective here featuring the characters from Stranger Things. It’s fan art for now, but I hope it gets licensed; I’d have Chief Hopper and Eleven on my shelf immediately. Which of the figures do you like best? [Comic Book Resources]

A Worried Look. Season six of ABC’s Once Upon a Time will arrive on September 25, and Storybrooke, as usual, is facing some threats. TVLine shared the above image and a quote from showrunner Adam Horowitz. He said, “Snow’s history with Regina comes back to haunt her and Charming, as a plan set in motion years ago by the Evil Queen comes to dangerous fruition in present-day Storybrooke.” Oh dear. Will you brave the American Horror Story maze? What are your hopes for the sixth season? Sound off in the comments.
