Our First Look at AMERICAN GODS in Action is Here AT LAST!

Glory to the American Gods in the highest. Bryan Fuller is our shepherd, so we lack for nothing—particularly when it comes to his upcoming TV adaptation of the aforementioned Neil Gaiman novel for Starz. The Hannibal and Pushing Daisies showrunner’s latest outing may not be heading to our screens until 2017, but that doesn’t mean they don’t have a first look ready and waiting for us—in fact Entertainment Weekly has anointed our heads with proverbial oil to light our obsessive fires, and our cup now overflows with two new images featuring several of the series’ stars. Amen.

We’ve been walking through the darkest valley—left up to our own devices to imagine how Fuller’s interpretation of Shadow and Mr. Wednesday would look in real life. Thankfully, Fuller and Michael Green and Co. have delivered tenfold, based on the impressive set design on display in the photos.

The first—featuring Whittle’s Shadow, McShane’s Mr. Wednesday, and Pablo Schreiber’s Mad Sweeney—is instantly familiar to fans of Gaiman’s work as Jack’s Crocodile Bar. In one of the earlier scenes in the book, Shadow fights with a drunk leprechaun (Schreiber) in order to prove his worth to Wednesday. And the fact that it looks exactly as bawdy and audacious and visceral as we’d hoped? We’re feeling downright blessed. Click down to the gallery below to see the images in all their full-sized glory.

The second image is a close up on Brother RayMr. Wednesday, who’s looking decidedly more dapper than his recent Game of Thrones character. (Although he’s certainly got a style and swagger of which Al Swearengen would’ve approved.)

And can we talk about those gator heads? And the color? And the generally artistic way in which the whole scene is set? We’re head over heels for pretty much anything Gaiman and Fuller do, so to have their brilliant minds combined? To bring us this? We couldn’t be more freakin’ pumped for American Gods, y’all. Make sure you head over to EW to read thoughts from Fuller on the adaptation itself.

What do you think of the new images? Let us know in the comments below.
