We’ve all been wrestling with emptiness following the Breaking Bad finale, and with Mad Men entering a split final season, it was easy to slip into dark thoughts like, “This is The End.” Cue irony: AMC confirms it’s teaming with This is The End duo Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg to adapt Vertigo’s 1990s comic book series Preacher. The dream team doesn’t stop there: Breaking Bad‘s Sam Catlin is on board to executive produce and serve as showrunner. Buzz surrounding the project has been percolating for months, including a report right here at Nerdist in November.
Preacher follows bad-ass Texas clergyman Jesse, his girlfriend Tulip O’Hare, and hard-drinking Irish vampire Cassidy as they track down God to hold him accountable for abandoning his duties in heaven. It’s been a long road for Preacher, which has been through numerous reincarnations: as a film with Sam Mendes attached to direct; as an earlier film from Kevin Smith and starring James Marsden; and as a TV show for HBO (the network ultimately passed).
Preacher joins Vince Gilligan’s Breaking Bad spinoff, Better Call Saul, and a Robert Kirkman Walking Dead spinoff on AMC’s drama slate.
I guess the original must have been corrected since the first few comments because it clearly states: “his girlfriend Tulip O’Hare, and hard-drinking Irish vampire Cassidy.” Nowhere does it say that Cassidy is the girlfriend, or that Tulip is the vampire.
Somebody also referenced Tulip as being Jesse’s “serial killer” girlfriend in their overview of the series.
So yeah, maybe Hollywood should stay far away from this.
Correction “hard drinking Irish vampire”
Do you guys not know how to read!? It clearly says his gf Tulip O’Hare, “AND” hard drinking Irish Cassidy
JON BERNTHAL
there is nothing more to say.
Previous comments sometimes not visible until posting. Hence repetition.
As noted before it is possible that they’re merging two characters together. Or eliminating the gf and just using the vampire as a whole in her stead.
It has been fixed. Please return to your respective caves.
jesus, cut the girl some slack.. she made a mistake.. big whoop. get over it.
“vampire girlfriend Tulip O’Hare”
You sure about that????
Wrong. Jesse’s girlfriend Tulip was not the vampire, his friend Cassidy was.
So what’s the inevitable HArdwick after-show gonna be called? “Preach[ing]”???
His girlfriend isn’t a vampire, but his friend is.
Vampire Girlfriend??? What happened to the awesomeness of a drunken Irish Vampire?
Ooooooh, Lauren. This is Nerdist and nothing makes nerds madder than factual errors. Might want to go back and check on the Vampire girlfriend portion, before you are overwhelmedby the influx of indignant wheezing and inhaler fumes.
One thing, Tulip wasn’t a vampire. She was an excellent markswoman and an almost-hitwoman. Jesse’s Irish pal Cassidy was the vampire.
Vampire girlfriend? It’s been awhile since I read the comics, but I seem to recall his girlfriend was human and their “friend” Cassidy was the vampire. Are they changing the story for the adaptation or did you get your facts wrong?
I know everyone’s going to comment about this, but that Hollywood Reporter article was very wrong, Tulip is NOT a vampire. Tulip is his very human ex gf, Cassidy is his vampire friend. Do some research of your own before copying off of whatever article (probably hollywood reporter) you got this from.
