Last year, Amazon Studios took a bold step into the future of television development by offering viewers the chance to vote on their favorite pilots, the highest ranked of which would go to series. The results from that round ended up being â among others â the John Goodman-starring Alpha House and the sitcom Betas. Like digital competitor Netflix, Amazon has kept the viewership data on both shows under wraps, but they must be positive, because as of this morning, the network launched a brand new slate of pilots for viewers to check out.
The most notable of the slate is The After from Chris Carter. You know, the guy behind that little-known show⦠what was called? Oh yeah, The X-Files. According to the official synopsis of the series âThe After follows eight strangers who are thrown together by mysterious forces and must help each other survive in a violent world that defies explanation.â The series is Carterâs first show since The X-Files concluded, and his first piece of work since the last film, The X-Files: I Want to Believe.
The After, by far, sounds like the most ambitious show Amazon has attempted to date. The concept also sounds like something right in Carterâs wheel-house, and to be honest, the anticipation alone of whatâs been cooking in that manâs brain for the last few years is fascinating enough on its own to check the series out, especially since itâs for free.
The following are the rest of the series being offered up, along with their synopses according to Deadline:
Bosch
A police procedural about a cop under investigation for the murder of a serial killer.
Mozart in the Jungle
A series that goes behind the scenes at the symphony, an show audiences just what goes down before the curtains rise. From Jason Schwartzman, Roman Coppola, Alex Timbers and Paul Weitz.
Transparent
A dark comedy about a family with boundary issues. From Jill Soloway.
The Rebels
After the death of her husband, a widow is left in charge of a pro-football team.
Kids’ Pilots
Gortimer Gibbonâs Life on Normal Street
A coming-of-age story about a group of kids whose normal suburban street isn’t so normal after all.
Hardboiled Eggheads
An animated action series about a group of friends who fight monsters.
Maker Shack Agency
A series about the wonders of the maker movement.
Wishenpoof!
A series about a girl who can make all her wishes come true.
All these pilots can be seen right now on Amazon.com.
Does anyone know when these will be produced and available for us to watch. I’m glad I got to watch the pilots but feel cheated now that we have to wait for the full seasons. I like how Netflix does it, just put it all out there!
Is the way the Amazon pilot season works that only one of the dramas will get made? That would be a shame because both The After and Bosch are very promising. Bosch probably had a stronger pilot but The After has potential and I want to see where it goes. Plus it’s great to just have Chris Carter back.
Bosch is the best of the bunch. Amazing I need more episodes NOW!!!!!!! Bosch is from a producer/writer of the Wire and cocreator of Treme.
The After didnt hook me until the end. Typical pilot. But Bosch wow.
