All Our Questions For the NINTENDO SWITCH

Nintendo just unlashed the trailer for its brand new system, The Switch. The Switch combines Home and Handheld consoles into one unit that you can play on your television or on the go. Needles to say, we’re pretty excited. If the Switch is successful, never again will we have to make the impossible decision between putting down our Zelda game or going outside for some meaningful human contact. But that doesn’t mean we’re ready to drink this new batch of Mushroom Kingdom Kool-Aid just yet. Nintendo still has some questions to answer before we plunk down the couple hundred coins it’s going to cost.

For starters, how much will it actually cost? Nintendo’s consoles have typically been more affordable than Sony and Microsoft consoles from similar generations. But will the combination of home and handheld playability drive The Switch’s price up to Xbox like heights? For that matter, will the home/handheld hybrid even work? Given Nintendo’s history of innovation we could definitely see the gambit paying off. But we could also see a situation where the combining of consoles just ends in compromises and we’re left with a mediocre home system that transforms into a mediocre handheld system. And what about the battery life? The Switch will need to have a pretty long one to seem worthwhile. No one is going to care that you can play it anywhere if it turns off before you can actually get it anywhere.

There are still a ton more questions we want answered before the Switch is released next March. Will the graphics look as good in handheld as they do on your home screen? Will the controllers include motion control? And most importantly, will this be the big hit for Nintendo that the Wii U wasn’t? Let us know what you think!
