For years, Ryan Murphy has been teasing a season of American Horror Story that would mash-up the characters from the show’s first season, the ghost story Murder House, and the show’s witch-centric third season, Coven. Well, that time is finally here, as the trailer for American Horror Story: Apocalypse has finally dropped, and it should have longtime fans giddy with excitement over what’s coming. And what’s coming is seemingly the end of the world.
Not only is this crossover season bringing back fan favorites from previous years, but it has many of those favorites playing more than one role. In the new trailer, we catch glimpses of the Supreme Witch, Cordelia Goode (Sarah Paulson), along with fellow witches Myrtle (Frances Conroy), Zoe (Taissa Farmiga), and Madison (Emma Roberts). Many other cast members from the Coven season are scheduled to come back to the fold, including Jessica Lange, marking her return to AHS for the first time since season four’s Freak Show.
Farmiga will also bee seen as Murder House resident Violet Harmon, with both Dylan McDermott and Connie Britton returning as her parents. Getting to juggle the most roles this season are longtime cast members Evan Peters and Sarah Paulson, who are playing three separate characters each: their Murder House and Coven characters, as well as new roles created just for this series. If all that weren’t enough, original Dynasty diva Joan Collins is joining the series as well.
Aside from the concept of the Apocalypse, and the notion that the show is set several years into the future, we still know little about the plot of this season. How do the two very disparate narratives of season one and three come together? We know baby Anti-Christ Michael Langdon from Murder House will be all grown up and played by actor Cody Fern, so that’s one big clue. One thing’s for sure: this will be the most talked about season of American Horror Story to come down the pike in years.
