RICK AND MORTY, Along with Faith in Humanity, Renewed For Season 3

In case you’ve been living under a rock, you should know that Rick and Morty is one of the greatest shows currently on television. You should also know that it was picked up for a third season on Wednesday, so go ahead and do a celebratory dance.

The Adult Swim series, created by Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland, is currently in its second season. Each episode follows a bizarro version of Doc Brown, the hard drinking, foulmouthed mad scientist Rick (Justin Roiland), and his neurotic grandson Morty (also Justin Roiland) as they go on a series of intergalactic adventures. The show nimbly darts between dick jokes and whispsmart scientific observations, weaving together everything from Schrödinger’s cat and quantum mechanics to feelings of loneliness and self-worth over the span of a single episode. By treating both its highbrow and lowbrow comedy with equal measure and degrees of care, Rick and Morty has emerged as not only one of the funniest shows on television, but one of the smartest. In essence, this is the darker, bleaker spiritual successor to sci-fi sitcoms like Futurama — something that we sorely needed.

Now, the real question is when will Kyle Hill answer the question of how long it would actually take Mr. Meeseeks to lower Jerry’s golf handicap by two strokes on Because Science?

Rick and Morty also made my top list of the best returning fall TV shows on this week’s episode of The Dan Cave. Find out which other 7 shows made the cut, then invest in a comfy new couch. You’re gonna need it.

Rick and Morty is currently airing Sundays at 11:30PM ET/PT.
