Adam Savage Finally Goes Incognito at a Comic Con (and in BLADE RUNNER 2049)

Fans of Adam Savage know that any anonymous cosplayer walking the floor of a comic con could actually be the former MythBusters host in one of his classic incognito costumes. That’s why every single time someone manages to spot him, even though his face is always covered. Until now.

Because for the first time ever, at this year’s New York Comic Con dressed as Moonwatcher from 2001: A Space Odyssey, nobody figured out it was really him. No one even asked. It was Savage’s second costume of the weekend (after his chained Chewbacca cosplay) — a not-so-simple, animatronic mask of the famous ape. His incognito get-ups are usually more complete, so maybe his reputation for elaborate costumes was a kind of reverse camouflage?

But if you think that’s a shameful showing by attendees, we all did something much worse. None of us noticed he played an extra — in plain sight and standing right next to Dave Bautista — in one of the Blade Runner: 2049 short films.

In fairness to those who were there, this was bound to happen eventually, even though we just assume every cosplayer in disguise at any comic con is really him.

Gah! He was right there! And we watched that thing like 10 times!

Okay, we are all on notice. Clearly we’ve all slipped at playing the “Find Adam Savage” game. It’s one thing when he’s wearing a mask, but “taking off his glasses” does not qualify as incognito.

But just to be safe, if you see any Clark Kent cosplayers at any comic con, ask if he is really Adam Savage.

What’s your favorite incognito costume he’s ever worn? And did you spot him as an extra in that short? REALLY? Don’t keep your thoughts anonymous, share them with us in the comments below.
