Adam Savage Checks Out Massive Custom LABYRINTH Model at the Weta Workshop

What makes a superfan? Is it knowing more about the thing you love than anyone else does? Perhaps loving something down to the atomic level and making it a part of your everyday life? Or is it a willingness to go above and beyond in that love of a film, TV show, book, comic, or game and create something completely unique? Well, it’s all of them actually, but today we’re focused on that last one in particular, after seeing this incredibly detailed recreation of Jareth’s Maze from Labyrinth.

From time to time, nerdy science guru and maker-extraordinaire Adam Savage brings us some incredible things on the Tested YouTube channel, including a recent video showcasing a visit he paid to the Weta Workshop in Wellington, New Zealand. There, he got a chance to see the Labyrinth model that designer/sculptor Johnny Fraser-Allen is making to go with River Horse’s tabletop Labyrinth game. Fraser-Allen designed and sculpted much of the art in the game including the game pieces that we get to see in their larger form during Savage’s interview.

Savage, no stranger to fandom-inspired maze building, gets a walkthrough of the impressive (believe it or not) small portion of the custom game board, which will end up stretching five meters long and encompassing most of what we see in the film. Each piece appears to be relatively modular for the sake of simplicity, with portions in each to customize the pathways should you find yourself in Jareth’s role while playing the tabletop game. And after hearing that Johnny Fraser-Allen quite literally rents another room specifically for his gaming, there’s not much else we want in the world than to become his friends, book a flight to New Zealand, and play this massive Labyrinth with him.

What do you think of this Labyrinth recreation? Let’s discuss in the comments below!
