Hey, Community fans! Remember when Abed told Jeff that long story about his visit to the set of Cougar Town, where he was an extra and pooped his pants? Last night’s Cougar Town had the payoff:
And you’ll recall that in a group shot in the Community finale, Busy Philipps and Dan Byrd were among the “students” in the scene. Full circle. Awesome.
HT: Washington Post
Holy crap! I’m just watching the season finale and caught this. Had to rewind 10 times. Totally made my day!
I must say there is something about Cougartown that gets me. I realize it has a suckiness about it, but there’s something that draws me to it. Can’t put my finger on it. Here’s hoping, despite the sucky aspect, it makes 6 Seasons and a movie.
I love how it isn’t Danny Pudi being an extra, but Abed. That is 100% Abed in that scene.
@Sunks75 – Scrubs and Cougartown are from the same producer, Bill Lawrence
Courtney Cox did a handful of eps of Scrubs in its finale (real) season,
Unrelated – Christa Miller was on the Drew Carey Show which also featured Ian Gomez as a recurring character.
Abed was awesome, then Ted from Scrubs AND Jordan from Scrubs and Ellie in Cougar Town is the same actress. Classic.
The premise isn’t what you might think it is based on the title. It’s really just a show about a group of friends. I guaranty you, if you haven’t watched this show, it’s not what you think it is.
The title, the premise, Cox Fatigue Sydrome, there are many reasons not to watch this show.
Independent of the clip (which is totally awesome, and literally made me stop what I was doing the moment i spotted Abed/Pudi), if anyone’s not watching Cougartown because of the title, you should know they make fun of said title once an episode.
Thank science there was a clip, now I don’t have to actually watch Cougar Town.
First Abed from Community, the Ted from Scrubs, just awesome
This is wrinkling my mind. In an interview Dan Harmon pointed out that Community has referenced Cougar Town as a TV show and Cougar Town has referenced Community as a TV show, creating as he called it a ” mobius strip” of references.
@David, not this CT fan! Although I’m curious if there are more overlapping fans like me. I hope so since both shows feature a hilarious ensemble.
I bet it would probably seem kind of funny although a bit odd if you didn’t see Abed tell the story of that scene in Community. I liked that at one point, Abed has basically stopped pretending to drink coffee and is blatantly watching the conversation. It’s like that classic ben Affleck sketch on SNL where he is acting out a scene in Gigli and Fred Armisen is an extra who keeps interrupting the scene to say things like “Hey, Ben! This is going to be a terrible movie!”
If you didn’t know of Pudi or Community, I would hope that it is still a bit funny and in character with the show that some odd person might just pop up randomly for no reason. At least they didn’t wear the gag out.
I would love to know how many Cougar Town fans has NO idea what was going on with the crazy guy in the background.
Cool. Cool cool cool. However, I must ask, am I the only one who thinks Cougar Town is a bad show?
@Brian E.
Since you mentioned Veronica Mars, I will take this opportunity to insist, once again – Big C, you have to get Kristen Bell on podcast!
Oh my gosh, I thought I recognized him! That was the first time I watched Cougar Town, and can’t seem to keep up with Community, so I didn’t know what was going on…the pants-pooping certainly explains his hasty retreat, though. 🙂
Thats so cool!

Actually, the Subway plug is a bit more Chuck than Spurlock.
But I have never been more excited to accidentally be watching something out of laziness.
Shawn, I believe the preferred term is “Spurlockian”.
Awesome to the MAX
Best. Cameo. Ever.
What I find most interesting in this clip is the Morgan Spurlockesque product placement for Sub-way. He is straight up doing a commercial in the middle of a scene.
I caught it! Loved it. I love when shows play with each other like this. Veronica Mars had the “Lost” numbers on a fortune cookie in one ep. Fun stuff.
It was good seeing a cross over like that, especially since Abed is a huge fan of Cougar Town.
And Cougar Town ain’t too bad itself.
And this is why Community is the best show on television.
