ABCs OF DEATH 2: Julian Barratt Talks About His Favorite Death Scene

As Halloween quickly approaches, even the less hardcore horror fans begin to get into the spirit by picking out costumes, attending parties, and probably watching a scary movie or two. We’ve spoken with The Might Boosh and ABCs of Death 2 “B is for Badger” director Julian Barratt about his favorite death scene in all of cinema, and the answer might surprise you…

As Barratt explained, “When they asked me what my favorite death scene was I think I initially said John Hurt in Alien. I think everyone said that, they said I had to pick another one. But the one in Theatre of Blood, I don’t know, it just stuck with me as a kid. I was obsessed with that film because it was so — I couldn’t really tell what kind of film that was really. To me, as a kid, I was quite frightened by it at times. That sort of baroque strange energy of the film; it’s like an Italian film or something. I couldn’t work it out, the colors of it were all strange, the acting style was very weird and then there would be horrific deaths [Laughs] along the lines of the Shakespearian plays.”

Barratt continued, “But I suppose, yeah, I just particularly remember the revenge upon Robert Morley who was made to eat his own poodles. My grandma had poodles, I think had some sort of effect on me. But I just remember the consistency of the poodle stew that he made. It was also grey and he had to then eat it and they funneled it into him, it was some sort of terrifying revenge on some greedy and horrific critic [Laughs]. I like that , it stuck in my mind…”
