So let’s start with the most pressing question we know you have about this schedule: where is Agent Carter? When the period piece drama was ordered to series with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s second season pick-up, it was done so without a pilot. The series will begin shooting over the summer (most likely expect to see the first footage of it at SDCC) and the goal, according to pilot script (and Captain America) writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, is to have the series bridge the gap between S.H.I.E.L.D.’s fall and spring episode runs in 2014/2015. We will see Agent Carter, but most likely not until the winter.

Keeping on the Marvel track for a moment, it is nice to see ABC has moved S.H.I.E.L.D. out of the 8pm slot. The network likely hoped that the Clark Gregg-led drama would have the juice to knock the wind out of the NCIS sail on CBS. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen and the show struggled in the Nielsen ratings most of the season. ABC was obviously well aware of this, and, in a move to use S.H.I.E.L.D. to launch Carter, renewed the drama and moved it to a more likely spot in the schedule where it has a better chance of competing, Tuesdays at 9pm.

As for the rest of the schedule, we think Wednesday is going to be a night to watch out for on the alphabet network. Fan favorite The Goldbergs will now be leading into Modern Family as opposed to following S.H.I.E.L.D., and The Middle will now kick-off the night as opposed to airing at 8:30pm. The juggernaut family sitcom will also now be followed by the new Anthony Anderson comedy, Black-ish. Basically, ABC might just be looking to fill your comedy block needs following NBC’s decision to drop several beloved series from their schedule.

As for Thursday, any of you Shonda Rhimes fans can rejoice in a three-hour Shonda block that will see Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal and the writer’s new series, How to Get Away With Murder, air back-to-back. Get those bowls of soap-opera popcorn ready for that one, folks.

ABC is also reportedly launching some high-profile projects such as Steven Spielberg’s The Whispers mid-season, but otherwise, most of the rest of the schedule remains fairly unchanged. Get ready to settle in for a lovely fall with the network.

Missing out on the opportunity for a “Marvel Monday”

  2. Quinn O"Brien says:

I hope a 9pm time slot will allow them to go a little darker.

  3. so they moved Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. to 9 est against Supernatural. good thing for ABC i have on demand. Supernatural comes first.

  4. Right into the same slot as Person of Interest. One of the best written shows on television. Great choice.

    • JB says:

Has Person of Interest’s time slot been announced yet? CBS’s Upfront isn’t until tomorrow I thought? I always thought POI was in the 10pm slot. Unless you live in Central time like I do then it’s 9, but they always announce time slots in Eastern time. So I’m thinking S.H.I.E.L.D. will be in the 8pm central slot. (9ET)
Though if it does air in POI’s slot, that’s kind of suicide. I mean don’t get me wrong, I LOVE Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, but not even close to how much I love Person of Interest, it’s hands down my favorite hour of television in years.
