In under a week, the Voltron saga will be given a complete reboot with Voltron: Legendary Defender, the new animated series by Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra veterans Joaquim Dos Santos and Lauren Montgomery. But if you’re near Los Angeles, you don’t have to wait for the series premiere to catch a glimpse of the new Voltron!
This weekend, the Hero Complex Gallery in downtown Los Angeles opened the Voltron: Legendary Defender art show, which features an exhibition of artwork that was inspired by the show. Over 40 different artists contributed to this event. Dos Santos, Montgomery, and a few of the voice cast members dropped by for the opening night.
From left-to-right, that’s Neil Kaplan, Josh Keaton, Kimberly Brooks, Lauren Montgomery, and Joaquim Dos Santos. Kaplan is voicing King Zarkon, the series’ big bad, while Keaton is portraying Shiro, the leader of the Voltron force who was known as Sven in the series’ first American incarnation. Brooks is the new voice of Princess Allura, a character who is quite different from her original version. In this iteration of Voltron, Allura flies the entire castle into battle!
Montgomery also contributed some artwork of Allura to this exhibition, which you can see below.
And could the Space Mice be making a comeback on this series? They were definitely bizarre and unloved on the original show!
You can check out the rest of the images in our gallery below. The Voltron: Legendary Defender exhibition will run at the Hero Complex Gallery through June 19, so you have some time to check it out. For more information about the Hero Complex Gallery, visit the official site.
