While those of you outside New York and Los Angeles will have to wait until February 21st to see Hayao Miyazaki’s purported final picture, The Wind Rises (Kaze Tachinu), you can scratch that anime itch with a brand new trailer posted earlier this morning by Deadline.
A dreamy, poignant tale of love, loss and wartime struggles, the latest Studio Ghibli film follows aircraft designer Jiro Horikoshi on his journey from childhood to designing the iconic Japanese Zero fighter plane. Look for my review coming this week, but rest easy in the knowledge that this is among one of Miyazaki’s finest works to date, especially after the more kiddie-facing fare of Ponyo and The Secret World of Arrietty.
What do you think of the trailer? Will you be seeing the film? Let us know in the comments below or tell me on Twitter.
Most people people think Hayao Miyazaki directs every Ghibli film. He doesn’t. He’s also a Manga creator and most of Ghibli films use his art style(My Neighbors the Yamada’s didn’t).
yes definitely watching it.
YES! YES YES YES! I will see it.
Just to be clear, Miyazaki didn’t direct Arrietty. He did adapt the screenplay though, so it could be argued as one of his… but not really. That said, it was a rare good Ghibli showing that wasn’t directed by the master.
I LOVE IT!!!!
