A New BONE Comic Will Be Released for the Series’ 25th Anniversary

The Bone cousins are coming home to Boneville! Back in 2004, cartoonist Jeff Smith’s acclaimed all-ages comic Bone ended its run at 55 issues. But now, for the upcoming 25th anniversary of Bone, Smith has announced that he’s bringing back his iconic series for a new one-off graphic novel.

Smith’s new Bone project is called Bone: Coda, a 120-page graphic novel that will feature a brand new Bone story that takes place shortly after the end of the original series. The Bone comic book followed Fone Bone, his greedy cousin Phoney Bone, and their very goofy cousin Smiley Bone after they were run out of Boneville. Fllowing a very fantasy-inspired adventure with the humans living in the Valley, the Bone cousins, and their Rat creature Bartleby, decided to go back to their home in Boneville.

Coda picks up right where the Bone comics left off last time,” said Smith during an interview with ComicBook.com. “It’s got the Bone cousins doing what they always do with each other: arguing with each other and falling off cliffs and stuff. It’s a very silly story…The Bone book itself is complete, and I see Coda as more of an extra little story to be had. It really happened to them, but it won’t be added to the main Bone book.”

The rest of the Bone: Coda graphic novel will include the complete text of The Bone Companion by Stephen Weiner, which will now be fully illustrated. Bone: Coda will be released in July.
