A Murderous New Homestar Runner Halloween Cartoon

Oh man, you guys. It’s like a Halloween miracle. Every year for a good long while in the 2000s, Homestar Runner dot com would give us their annual treat of a spooky and sublimely silly Halloween cartoon. Naturally, when updates became scarce, the holiday specials also fell by the wayside, but given that we’re starting to see updates again from the online comedy pioneers, we held out a glimmer of Flash-animated hope that we’d see Homestar, Strong Bad, and the gang don some pop cultural costumes and have a weird adventure. We’re in luck on all counts. Everyday should be Halloween!

The short, entitled “I Killed Pom Pom,” is one of their stranger efforts, in the best of ways. Homestar believes he’s accidentally murdered (or “moudoued” as he pronounces it) his best friend Pom Pom and he enlists Strong Bad’s help in covering it up. Of course, Homestar hasn’t done that at all and everybody proceeds to make him look the fool, but things take a dark turn by the end. Have a watch! And be sure to watch the whole way through since the Easter eggs are on display and are worth it, plus you get to find out who everybody is dressed as. Some of them I didn’t know!

Homestar as Tobias Funke might be the best costume for anyone all year, and Marzipan makes a decidedly feminine Tom Servo. How many of you laughed uproariously at the marble mouth thing at the end? The answer should be “all of you.”

Let’s hope Homestar Runner will keep being new and great, because as that famous song says, Decemberween is only 55 days after Halloween.
