Have you ever wanted to learn the ways of the Jedi and master the art of the lightsaber? Unlike Luke Skywalker, most of us can’t get away for the weekend to play around in Yoda‘s Jedi Fantasy camp on Dagobah. But if you happen to live in the Bay Area, LudoSport may have the next best thing.
Via Cnet, LudoSport is bringing its international franchise to the U.S. with a competitive lightsaber school in San Francisco. This is no joke, and LudoSport certainly doesn’t treat it that way. For them, lightsaber combat is a serious sport, and they’ve previously opened franchises in several countries, including England, France, Ireland, Spain, and Italy. We wouldn’t be shocked if more locations open in up the U.S., but it seems like a fitting start to place the first one in the same city as Lucasfilm’s headquarters.
The history of LudoSport stretches back a decade, as its founders discovered ways to apply their knowledge of martial arts and swordplay to the iconic weapons from the Star Wars franchise. There’s definitely a karate dojo vibe to it, as students receive certain uniforms that line up with their skill level. The lightsaber academy also teaches the seven lightsaber techniques:Â Shii-cho, Makashi, Soresu, Ataru, Djem-so, Niman. and Vaapad.
Presumably the American students can train here without having to worry about one of their masters cutting them down after an ill-advised turn to the Dark Side of the Force. But then again, we guess that you can never really tell who’s gonna go bad, even with massive foreshadowing. There are already international competitions for LudoSports’ lightsaber combat, and it seems likely to spread across the U.S. as well.
Are you eager to get your lightsaber on at one the LudoSport academies? You are not a Jedi yet, but feel free to share your thoughts below!
