A KIKI’S DELIVERY SERVICE Live-Action Trailer

Miyazaki-san may be retired (sort of; he is hard at work on an original manga series of which he created and is doing ALL the art for), but that doesn’t mean Studio Ghibli devotees need go without their fix for all things awesome. When it was announced that the filmmaker behind The Grudge would be adapting the beloved Ghibli classic Kiki’s Delivery Service into a live-action feature film, the otaku world didn’t really know what to make of it. Sure, the movie had Ghibli (and more imporantly, Miyazaki’s) blessing, but since our beloved Studio wasn’t in charge of the film, who knew how it would turn out.

We’ve now got our first glimpse at how it turned out:

Honestly- I’m intrigued. The visuals of the film are very reminiscent of the anime it’s based on, and while a certain black cat is missing, I’d say this looks like a pretty faithful adaption of a movie most would think “un-adaptable”.

Excited for this movie? Another Ghibli film you’d like to see get the live-action treatment? Kindly leave a comment, email me , check out my YouTube channel, hit me up on the Twitter machine, or head to The Sand Swamp (my homepage).

It’s not based on the movie! It’s based on the first two books in the Kiki’s delivery service series. Get your facts straight.

Not super excited myself, but I thought I’d mention that Miyazaki’s animated feature is an adaptation of a beloved children’s series in Japan. I wonder if they’re just re-creating the anime or using more stories from the books. Probably the former…
