No, the photo above isn’t a screenshot from one of the Toy Story movies, believe it or not. It’s actually a real-life creation of Andy’s bedroom, made by a group of friends who have been working on a live-action recreation of Toy Story 3 since 2011.
In a tumblr post, the people behind the stunning room wrote, “When my friends and I began recreating Toy Story 3 in late 2011, we knew that we would have to create a full scale Andyâs room. I mean, letâs face it. You canât successfully recreate Toy Story 3 without a realistic looking Andyâs room. It took about 2 years of work, but it was totally worth it. Itâs the room that most of us grew up wishing we had. From the hardwood floor to the bright white woodwork, itâs all there.”
They really do seem to have nailed all the detailsâfrom the accurate posters on the walls to the toy box to the crescent moon headboard to the lamp on his desk. Aside from a few minor but inconsequential differences between the tribute and the source material, there really isn’t anything to complain about here.
The original post has more comparison photos and explanations about how the room came to be, like finding a perfect dart board at a thrift store for $5 or one of their brothers recreating the posters.
The post concludes by saying, “So yeah, a lot of work went into recreating Andy’s room. But you know what? My friends and I enjoyed every single minute of it. The extra work really paid off. We canât get over how great it looks on film.”
The movie doesn’t have a release date yet, but they did share one of their recreated scenes on YouTube about a year ago:
