A DOCTOR STRANGE Action Figure Set is Heading to Comic-Con

By the Hoary Hosts of Hoggoth! Doctor Strange fans are going to love the latest Comic-Con exclusive merchandise.

At next month’s San Diego Comic-Con International, Hasbro will be releasing a special Doctor Strange-themed set of action figures from its Marvel Legends Line. Five 6-inch figures will be packaged together in a replica of the Book of the Vishanti, Strange’s personal spell book which is named after the three mystical entities that he often calls upon in battle. I believe this is what they’d consider a “shut up and take my money!” moment.

Within the set are Strange in his astral form, Brother Voodoo (possibly in his Doctor Voodoo incarnation), Magik from the X-Men and the New Mutants, Hela, and Dormammu, ruler of the Dark Dimension.

Doctor Strange Figures 2

Brother Voodoo has often been an ally of Strange’s — he was once even Dr. Strange’s successor as Sorcerer Supreme. Dormammu was also a given, considering he’s been one of Doctor Strange’s greatest adversaries from the earliest days of the comic. Despite her mutant origins, Magik was Strange’s apprentice in Brian Michael Bendis’ Uncanny X-Men run. Fun fact: Magik actually used her powers to go back in time to get training from a much younger Strange. (But you probably knew that already.)

The real puzzler in this set, though, is Hela the Asgardian Goddess of Death. With stronger ties to Thor than she does to Doctor Strange, we think Clea and Umar would have been better choices, especially since they don’t have action figures of their own yet.

Doctor Strange Figures 3

To offset that bit of strangeness, the set does come with a replica of Doctor Strange’s Eye of Agamotto, one of his most powerful mystical artifacts. Between the Book of the Vishanti and the Eye, fans are just a Cloak of Levitation away from some Doctor Strange cosplay.

The Doctor Strange set will retail for $99.99 at Comic-Con, and it will probably be hard to come by even at the show. Hasbro will be selling a limited number of Doctor Strange sets after Comic-Con through HasbroToyShop.com.
