80 Classic Movie Posters that are Better Without the Text

Remember that thing your English teacher used to always tell you: “show, don’t tell.” Well, Mrs. Harrington was onto something there, because these text-less movie posters might be even better without words.

Posted by Imgur user joinyouinthesun, these 80, hi-res edited movie posters don’t spell it out for you, they just let the image do all the talking. Some of these are genuinely stunning, and as a result, maybe more powerful than the originals.

Of course, it can be hard to separate how well known a movie is from how ingrained in our consciousness its images are, so you have to ask how effective they would be to get you to buy a ticket if you didn’t already know the story.

For example, the poster for The Godfather makes the movie look more like a story about an old, widowed Italian man who takes in a stray cat to help him get over his grief. (Hey…I’d watch that.)

Dirty Harry looks like the story of a gun-toting, blind vigilante. (Hmm…I’d watch that one too.)

We have a few more of our favorites in the gallery below, but you do not want to miss the rest, so make sure you head over and check out all 80 posters to see if one of your most beloved movies was included.

What other classic movie posters do you think would benefit from losing thier text and just going with the pictures? Give us your best suggestion in the comments below and hopefully your idea will make it into a future batch.
