8-Bit Cinema Soars with GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

Regardless of what the Oscars or Golden Globes have to say about what is or is not “the best,” no movie in 2014 had the level of pop-culture permeation as Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, a movie that gave us dozens of spoofs and homages on the interwebs, let alone one that six month after release is STILL doing that very thing. While there’s been a lot of debate as to whether Guardians actually is like a Star Wars for today (despite the fact that a new Star Wars is coming out in a year’s time), I would submit that if nothing else, the first MCU space opera has succeeded in becoming a property everybody can enjoy and share in, not least of which because of the, let’s face it, incredibly cute toys and things it’s produced.

Today’s big of deep-space adorableness comes from the good folks at CineFix as part of their ongoing series of “8-Bit Cinema,” taking popular movies, boiling them doing to their essential 3 minutes, and making them look like a Capcom game from the old Nintendo days. Some of the places the characters run look exactly like where Mega Man ran around shooting mega stuff. Some of the highlights for me include the appearance of Howard the Duck, grinning Groot, Star-Lord dancing, and of course Rocket simply existing. He’s the baddest of asses. Have a look!

The longevity of Guardians is great if for nothing else than videos like this. If and when they actually make a video game for the movie, can we just recommend they do it like this? People will play it and it’ll save developers a bundle. Just a thought.

  1. Point of order . . . this definitely seems a lot closer to 16-bit.
