The 1980s were a magical time. Or I think they were at least; I was 6 years old when they ended, but they seemed pretty great from pictures I’ve seen. From the ridiculous fashion to music by the likes of Flock of Seagulls and Men Without Hats, the ’80s put their stamp on pop culture in a big way. One of these ways was the inception of video games, which were adorably quaint by our standards today. To commemorate the ’80s, the makers of X-Men: Apocalypse have given us a trio of playable arcade games for a world where mutants existed.

X-Men: Apocalypse will take place in the mid-’80s and focus on the new crop of mall-loving teen mutants, like Cyclops, Jean Grey, and Nightcrawler, and they’ll be hanging out in an arcade called Space Port Arcade. As a bit of sweet promotion, three different arcade games are playable with the same boxy 8-bit graphics you’ve come to expect from games of the era.

Mutant All-Stars Track & Field lets you pick between three different mutants–and a human, because diversity–and compete in three different track and field events, including 100-yard dash, the high jump, and the javelin throw. To do this, of course, you have to use only your arrow keys.

Mutant Conquest has you as an archaeologist in Egypt who has to fight the four horsemen of the Apocalypse–War, Famine, Pestilence, and Death. But really it’s just exactly Pac-Man.

And Revenge of Hero X asks you to be a tiny dot that shoots at mutants and robots and try to save humans (i.e. not shoot them). I’m sure this is like another type of game–it reminds me a bit of Asteroids–but I can’t figure out what it is. Anyway, this one is easily the hardest of the bunch in my opinion.

With everybody talking about Captain America: Civil War, some sweet period-centric promotion on the part of X-Men: Apocalypse is a great way to remind people the movie’s here, and will be in theaters May 27. I was already excited for it, but now even more! All the games can be played at Space Port Arcade’s website.
