20th Anniversary DualShock 4 To Get Standalone Release This September

Calling all PlayStation fans! December 2014 marked the 20th anniversary for the gaming company and in commemoration of that date, Sony released a super limited 20th Anniversary edition of the PS4. Only 12,300 were made, and they were sold out in minutes. Thankfully we scored our own and unboxed it, but what about the rest of the world?

No, I’m not here to tell you that they are releasing more consoles. Unfortunately, that ship has sailed. Sony is however re-releasing the slick DualShock 4 that came with the system. As of right now, the company has confirmed that the controller will be available for standalone purchase across Europe once September rolls around. Sony has yet to announce a North American release date, but an Amazon listing shows that it is already available for pre-order.

20th Anniversary PS4 system

If you’re looking for a new controller and an awesome piece of history, this is great! But if not, it might not be as exciting a purchase because aside from the classic PlayStation Gray color, and the red, yellow and blue PS logo on the home button. There isn’t much to differentiate this bad boy from its siblings that are already out in the wild (aside from color of course).

Sadly that means that the touchpad won’t feature the PS button symbols seen in the sticks that came with the limited edition ,and will instead sport the regular dots seen on your other DualShock 4s. It probably doesn’t really matter, but it was a cool detail that’ll be missed. At the end of the day, the PS1-styled controller is still a pretty cool piece of PlayStation history that I’m sure collectors will eat up.

Speaking of collectors, remember when the system launched back in December? Sony Computer Entertainment auctioned one of the systems off for a whopping $128,000  and donated all of the proceeds to charity. That figure still blows me away.

Are you going to try to get your hands on one of these? let us know in the comments below.
