Even though Illumination Entertainment’s The Secret Life of Pets doesn’t hit theaters till summer 2016, they still wanted to drop in and wish everyone a happy holiday season with a new video.
More of a quick promo for the film than a trailer, the clip features some of the film’s characters being photographed for Christmas cards. Things go about as well as you’d expect–or experienced, if you’ve ever tried to dress a pet up for a photo. While the first trailer gave us a small sampling of the voice acting of Louis C.K.’s “Max” (the terrier) and Jenny Slate’s “Gidget” (the Pomeranian), sadly this holiday teaser has no dialogue at all. We’re sure more trailers are on the way, but we were really hoping to hear Hannibal Buress’ “Buddy” the dachshund or Bobby Moynihan as “Mel” the pug.
Illumination’s films (with the exception of 2011’s Hop) have steadily increased in success, scope, and stakes. The talent involved in their films is growing with each new release and in addition to C.K., Slate, Buress, and Moynihan, the cast is incredibly star-studded with the likes of Kevin Hart, Steve Coogan, Ellie Kemper, Lake Bell, Eric Stonestreet and Albert Brooks.  Despicable Me 1 & 2 and Minions have more than proven themselves in the box office, not to mention as fun adventures that are entertaining for adults AND kids. We’re going to go out on a limb here and say that The Secret Life of Pets will probably continue that trend.
