12 MONKEYS Ordered To Series By SyFy

In August of 2013, SyFy put into development a series adaptation of Terry Gilliam’s sci-fi classic 12 Monkeys. The series, created by Nikita alums Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett, was green-lit for a pilot that was shot in November starring Aaron Stanford, Amanda Schull, Noah Bean, and Kirk Acevedo. Today, SyFy announced the series would be moving forward with a 12-episode order set to premiere in January 2015.

According to Deadline, the series “follows the journey of a time traveler (Aaron Stanford) from the post-apocalyptic future who appears in present day on a mission to locate and eradicate the source of a deadly plague that will eventually decimate the human race.” The site also claims SyFy’s other pilot, Bryan Fuller’s High Noon, will not be moving forward at the network.

The 12 Monkeys news is good news. Matalas and Ficket are very capable writers who have a clear vision of what they want this show to be, and especially coming out of the Nikita camp along with Stanford and Bean, none of the key players are likely going to deliver a boring product.
