12 DAYS OF GRUMPY CAT CHRISTMAS COMICS #5: Boo, Betamax

♪ On the fifth day of Christmas, Grumpy C gave to me… a Betamax VCR for you and me ♪

Aight, you know the drill at this point Grumpy Cat. You’ve had four whole days (and nine lives) of disappointment to prepare yourself for another extremely shitty gift, and yet you’ve made the mistake of being cautiously optimistic. Who is really to blame here?

In the latest installment of Dynamite Comics‘ 12 Days of Grumpy Cat Christmas, we do some feline time travel back to the 1980s, when Star Wars mania was so prevalent that it crossed species lines. As a young lil’ puny grump, one of the few things that brought Grumpy Cat joy was watching the original trilogy on VHS. But then during one of her viewings of The Empire Strikes Back, she could not contain her rage when Han Solo got frozen in carbonite (Lando did him very dirty, after all), and unleashed paws of fury on her VHS until it was just a smoking heap of parts. Bummer.

But then Christmas time rolled around, and it appeared that her Auntie Gertrude was going to come in the clutch by delivering a brand new VHS. There was a glimmer of optimism, a new hope. But, this moment was quickly dashed when Grumpy Cat discovered that old Auntie Gertrude accidentally got her a Betamax player. Sigh, maybe tomorrow you’ll get something that you’ll like. But you know, probably not. Sorry, bruh.

Matt Grosinger is the music editor of The Nerdist and is most definitely a dog person. You know, like a giant animatronic dog? Anyway, Merry Christmas! Check back tomorrow for day 6 of 12 Days of Grumpy Cat Christmas!
