10 Books We Can’t Wait to Read in 2016

Sooner than any of us expected, the season of twinkle lights and carols is over again, and we’re be back in the dark, cold night of winter that writers like George RR Martin have been prophesying for decades. As we get ourselves geared up to survive yet another winter, at least here in the Northern Hemisphere, the fine folks with all your favorite publishers will be hard at work trying to get the newest releases ready for your eyes and ears. Here are some of the titles we’re most excited to see hit shelves next year.

The guaranteed hit of the spring – and I don’t even feel like I’m jinxing things by presenting it that way – will probably be Lin-Manuel Miranda and Jeremy McCarter’s backstage guide to Hamilton, the smash hit Broadway musical that everyone is talking about this winter. (Yes I live in New York; No I cannot help you get tickets.) In a similar vein, I’m pretty excited to see an art book from Kickstarter hit stands called Odyssey Works: Six Proposals for a More Beautiful World.

There are some excellent science fiction and fantasy things on the horizon from new authors like The Girl From Everywhere and Frankenstein in Baghdad, as well as a number of things coming from authors we already know and love. Victoria Aveyard will publish Glass Sword, the second volume in the Red Queen Series, and Marissa Meyer will release not one, but two new books, Stars Above: A Lunar Chronicles Collection and Heartless. Beth Revis is also out with a new blend of YA and sci-fi with A World Without You.

If you’re anything like me, you’re super pumped to see rising literary star Ta-Nehisi Coates at the helm of the new Black Panther from Marvel, and Death by Video Game: Danger, Pleasure, and Obsession on the Virtual Frontline by Simon Parkin is already creating buzz in the world of gaming thanks to the author’s in-depth reporting. The final book on my list is The Mirror Thief by Martin Seay which is coming out in May. I have more on each of these below.
