By now, we’ve experienced nearly every conceivable version of the end of the world: zombie apocalypse, vampire apocalypse, robot apocalypse, X-Men: Apocalypse, you name it. But the version of the end of days that has me most excited is one filled with puppies. This isn’t a cutesy, cuddly version of the decline of humanity; rather, it is a brutal sage of dogs and cats attempting to rebuild the world. And that’s exactly what is coming your way in Z2 Comics’ new series Legend.
The story follows an English Pointer named Legend, who sets out to kill a terrible monster known as the Endark after Ransom, the leader of the Dog Tribe, is murdered. Now, I don’t know about you, but that sounds like the visceral, mature twist on The Incredible Journey I’ve been waiting for.
Novelist Sam Sattin (The Silent End, League of Somebodies) makes his comic book debut with Legend, working with illustrator Chris Koehler (The Atlantic, Popular Science) to create a unique take on the well-worn tropes of post-apocalyptic sci-fi. It reminds me a bit of Tokyo Jungle, the PlayStation 3 title which put you in control of various animals in the deserted streets of a near-future Tokyo, but mixed with the epic storytelling of Brian Jacques’ Redwall novels.
Now, you can take an exclusive first-look at a trailer for the upcoming series, which debuts on May 4, 2016.

Ransom, the leader of the Dog Tribe, has been murdered by a creature known as the Endark. An English Pointer named Legend reluctantly rises to lead in his place, vowing to kill the monster once and for all.
