Wow, Matt’s camp sounds super fun. “Everyone was crying…” LOLOL Crazy ass Christians. Our church has been giving us the hard sell on sending our kids to a Christian camp – thanks for reinforcing my decision to put the ixnay on THAT.
Suzanna Holmes = Pete’s wife.

Excellent interview. There’s no disconnect between seeing connections and atheism…just no support for supernatural ones.
Brother Dave Gardner, a standup who recorded LPs in the early ’60s and then got crazier and crazier throughout the decade (he would have a Klan escort by ca. 1970s), had a version of the hell/heaven joke (while still sane) in which everyone was at a long table with big bowls of soup in front of them, and long-handled spoons tied to one hand (with the other hand behind their backs)…making the feeding each other that much more natural in heaven.
Oops. Sorry for the triple posts.
I still am wondering who that person was that Pete referred to when talking about feeling inferior in wanting “exposure.” This person was mentioned when he told a story about an experience about hanging out backstage at the UCB after an ASSSSCat show. He talks about feeling humiliated when a man, (presumably a UCB performer or a comedian associated with UCB or ASSSSCat in some way), who “may or may not have a beard” that told him that “they” (UCB), is becoming more exclusive about letting people go back to hang out with the cast.

When Pete referred to this guy it seemed that he was speaking of some guy known in the comedy world or at UCB. Also he laughed as he spoke of him as if Matt Besser would definitely know who this guy is based on the beard description. I’m thinking maybe David Cross. He has had a beard for a bit.
UCB is mentioned practically every episode and I JUST realized that it stands for Upright Citizens Brigade…
@Spencer
*Hands you props for your Besser Holmes and Gardens Pun*
Good show. Seriously.
If Matt told that story but didn’t mention that it was a christian summer camp, you would say “Oh, Matt was in a psychopathic cult for the summer”.
Friends of mine and myself have turned the clown joke into an improve game… we have strecthed it out to an hour and a half plus (told in shifts)
I demand you two form a supercast called Besser Holmes and Gardens. You’ll just talk about gardening.
I loved hearing Matt talk comedy during The Earwolf Challenge, so it was fantastic to hear him get even more into the ins and outs of improv on YMIW. I’m currently taking a 101 class in Philadelphia, and I love that podcasts like YMIW make it possible for me to hear from the best of the best. Great interview, as always, Pete!
He’s your 2nd cousin once removed!
I went to a Christian camp exactly like that as a kid, right down to the Native American theme. As creepy and manipulative as it was, looking back, I loved going there… Ironically (or maybe not), there were some pretty easy girls there, and even some reefer.
Oops! Not sure if it’s too late to fix, but the file is named incorrectly. It is named MI39 (Making It) rather than YMIW39. Easy fix post-dl of course, but thought you might like to know.
