You can clearly see by the date on this comment that I am WAY behind on episodes. In the interest of catching up faster I considered skipping over this one, especially during the first few minutes. I could not be happier than I stuck with it. I listened this morning and have been thinking about it all day. The stories Kirk told and the way he spoke about his parents was all so lovely and moving. This is my absolute favorite episode of any podcast, ever.
@ItsAlrightPodcast – Reminds me of an episode of “M.A.S.H.” where Hawkeye tells Hotlips they both have problems with romance because “we’re looking for a custom fit in an off-the-rack world.” NO ONE is going to fit anyone 100% and no one should expect them to because, frankly no one has an OBLIGATION to “fit” other people. I wonder if there’s some narcissism in thinking “There’s gotta be a perfect fit for ME out there…”
And Kirk Fox is So mellow, I half expected him to say something like, “The Dude abides.”
Any one know Pete’s email? I know he’s said it couple of times on the podcast but I couldn’t remember where. Thanks!
Loved, loved, loved this episode! So thought provoking, uplifting, and funny!
Found this story about Bamboo Ben….

How’d you find out about that masturbating chi thingy?
HOLY CRAP regarding the baby story! I was running outside this morning, in the dark all by myself, and I was so so scared after hearing that! Really freaked me out! I agree, the episode was hard to warm up to, but Kirk ended up being one of my favorite guests yet! Nice job Pete!!
“sunny d, next to the purple stuff” LMAO – I love those little subliminal jokes that the guest never seems to hear.
@Adrian, thank you! I, like the others, was freaking out about where I could’ve possibly heard that baby story before.
I had goosebumps with that baby story…unbelievable….
OK, so Kirk definitely won me over in the second hour. I think the problem was he doesn’t really laugh, his cadence and tone don’t really change, and I can’t see his face, so when he is being serious and when he is being funny didn’t really come across.
I started off not liking Kirk at all. About halfway through, he started to grow on me. Pete and Kirk have a much different dynamic than most other guests, which took a while to get used to it.
By the time the episode ended, I didn’t want it to!
Totally. If you ‘see’ the episode through to the end I think you will be pleased. I found it rather delightful. # WBRB
@jesse it totally rubbed me the wrong way I have no idea when he’s full of shit or trying to be funny or sincere ugh! Terrible
@Jesse I felt the same way at first, but if you keep listening, he’ll grow on you. He has some amazing and moving stories he tells in the back-half of the episode.
Anyone else not like this guy but can’t put their finger on why? I’ve listened to every episode, this is the only one I can’t make it through.
The reason the baby story sounds familiar is because Pete brought it up in the Brent Sullivan episode. He had just recorded this episode.
@Adrian Thank you! That makes sense now.
@Pete Great episode! I live in San Diego so I looked up Bamboo Ben and the soft sand shuffle and I found a journal of someone that met him! Crazy!
LOVED THIS. Wonderful. I want to be friends with Kirk now. We’ll be right back.
Thanks for a great and thoughtful episode. Man that was a lot to take in.
wow, thanks kirk fox and pete homes for taking us there.

“I’ll watch your show you Magic Man”.
How many people are gonna start saying “We’ll be right back” from now on. The best!
Mike Myers was the first person I saw use that gag.
@Mike and @Anon, Pete mentioned the story on an earlier episode! I think the one with Brent Sullivan.
We can’t all have “the Princess Bride thing”. If we all seek that, 99.9% of us will be forever disappointed and not appreciative enough of the loved ones around us. The fact that Kirk’s parents had something like that is beautiful–but I say that the fact that some people like Dan Savage can share love with more than one other human–that can be beautiful also, and the idea that we can quantify which is better is folly. My 2 cents–great show–long live YMIW

Are you kidding me??? I thought I was going insane! I had the exact same experience.
OMG YES about the baby story! I had to come here right away after hearing it because I heard the exact same story like less than a week ago. It was so familiar that as he started telling it I was like, “NO WAY” because I thought I was having the craziest deja vu ever. I don’t think I have ever heard Kirk on ANYTHING before so Im freaking out a bit right now.
Has anyone heard a story similar to the one Kirk told about the baby drowning?
What a funny, thoughtful, uplifting episode. Really touching stories from Kirk about his parents, and Pete is the perfect complement. Congrats to you both on your deserved success!.. we’ll be right back 🙂
Yeah Shure! Thanks for making my listening experience better!
Also, I really do try to remember to use the Amazon banner. When I remember, it’s always for you. But I only remember like 1/4 of the time. Ok, through the intro. Now for the episode!
Great episode! Always loved Kirk’s stand up, and he has some great stories and a few pearls of wisdom.
