X-MEN: APOCALYPSE Plot Revealed in M&M Press Release

When you are looking for breaking news in the world of superheroes and big budget films, you look to one place: M&Ms.

Well, you do today at least, because the staff of ComingSoon.net happened to notice a bit of very informative X-Men: Apocalypse news buried at the end of a press release announcing a partnership between Mars Chocolate North America and 20th Century Fox, related to the film. We now know the basic synopsis of the film and some background on its new (very old) villain. Here’s what they said:

Following the critically acclaimed global smash hit X-Men: Days of Future Past, director Bryan Singer returns with X-MEN: APOCALYPSE, opening in theaters everywhere May 27, 2016.  Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshipped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel’s X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign. As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) with the help of Professor X (James McAvoy) must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction.

So now we know why Apocalypse hasn’t been around during this age of the mutants, as well as some alliances and motivations. Sounds like we could end up with the largest mutant battle yet in the films.

This is all very exciting news, but it might only be the second best thing in the release, which also included this photo of Yellow and Green M&Ms as Magneto and Storm.
