X-MEN: APOCALYPSE Deleted Scene Takes a Very ’80s Trip to the Mall

While many fans out there were mixed to negative when it came to this past summer’s X-Men: Apocalypse, as a longtime X-Men comic book fan I found myself mostly pleased with it. One of my few major complaints, though, was that Bryan Singer’s film barely took advantage of the 1980s period in which it was set, which seems like a huge wasted opportunity. Sure, we got that cool Quicksilver scene set to the tune of the Eurythmics’ “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This),” but that didn’t seem nearly enough.

Luckily, we’re about to get a bit more. X-Men Ladies has shared one of the film’s deleted scene on Tumblr, upping the ante on the ’80s feel. The clip is a three-minute long sequence that celebrates all the decade’s touchstones in a super fun way. The scene features our main group of students from Xavier’s School—namely Cyclops, Jean Grey, Nightcrawler and Jubilee—playing hooky and going to the mall. Back in the ’80s, the mall was the center of teenage life, and here we see the kids playing video games at the arcade, shopping for records, and best of all, breakdancing with a bunch of human kids to the sound of one-hit-wonder Men Without Hats song “The Safety Dance.” You can watch the whole scene below.

It’s not a terribly long scene, but it’s a very enjoyable one. Not only is it a cool little ’80s throwback, but it adds character development to the core group of X-Men. This is especially true for Lana Condor’s Jubilee, who was all but cut from the final film. If they ever do decide to do an extended cut for X-Men: Apocalypse, I have a feeling this is the scene fans will most want to see reinserted into the film.

What do you think of this deleted scene? Was it a mistake to give it the chop, or did the producers do the right thing by leaving it on the cutting room floor? Chime in with your thoughts down below.

X-Men: Apocalypse hit Blu-ray on October 4.
