While the world eagerly awaits more information on anything related to Guillermo del Toro’s forthcoming robot vs. giant monster epic Pacific Rim, hearing the old adage of “patience is a virtue” is beginning to get a little bit frustrating. We want to see handsome Hollywood types piloting massive Jaegers and doing righteous battle with Kaijus already…or at least read about it. Fortunately, soon enough you’ll be able to do both, as Legendary Comics prepares the launch of Pacific Rim: Tales From Year Zero, a prequel series that sets up just how the shit hit the proverbial and, presumably, actual fans in the world of Pacific Rim. Written by the film’s screenwriter Travis Beacham and co-developed by director Guillermo del Toro and featuring illustrations from Sean Chen, Yvel Guichet, Pericles Junior and pencils by Chris Batista and Geoff Shaw, the book promises to flesh out the world of the film and, according to my conversation with GDT (which will go up sometime next week), will seriously enhance the viewing experience.
While the insides of a book are awesome, we’re always inclined to judge a book by its cover, so it’s a good thing that Pacific Rim: Tales From Year Zero’s cover is gorgeously illustrated by none other than Alex Ross. So, without further ado, fix your lookin’ balls on the cover in all its majesty.
Just ordered. Stoked for this movie.
