The DC Comics Extended Universe is about to make history with the first female-led superhero movie. Starring Gal Gadot as the iconic Amazonian warrior and directed by Patty Jenkins, Wonder Woman is not only the most anticipated movie of the summer (according to Fandango), but it has already won over the hearts and minds of critics around the globe. To say that we’re excited to see Princess Diana of Themyscira in action is quite possibly the understatement of the year, and to celebrate her big screen debut, we’ve created a brand new Wonder Woman-inspired music video parody just for you. (Okay, it’s for us, too.)
Just like our Beauty and the Beast and Migos mash-up “Belle and Boujee” or our Bruno Mars-inspired dance number “That Spidey Life”, we’ve gathered our experts together to tell Wonder Woman’s story through the power of music. The problem is, Wonder Woman is so iconic that we can’t really sum her up in just one song. So instead of settling for one, we’ll be paying tribute to our beloved Amazonian superhero through a mash-up of six classic girl power anthems throughout the decades.
Starring Nerdist’s resident Wonder Woman fangirl Jessica Chobot, Legends of Tomorrow‘s Ciara Renee, and Katrina Rosita, “Wonder Woman: Save the World” recreates Diana’s classic looks in some of the most famous music videos of all time. As someone who was fortunate enough to be on set during this momentous shoot, I felt like I was watching a comic book version of “Making the Video” (which is to say, it was the best day ever).
In case you need to brush up on these empowering jams, you can refresh your memory of the original songs below:
“These Boots Are Made for Walkin'” by Nancy Sinatra
“I Am Woman” by Helen Reddy
“Material Girl” by Madonna
“I’m Every Woman” by Whitney Houston
“Stronger” by Britney Spears
“Run the World (Girls)” by Beyonce
And because we know you’re going to get this mash-up stuck in your head, we’re got the lyrics for you right here:
“Wonder Woman: Save the World”
You keep sayin’ you want me in your league
Someone who will rise to the test
Youâve been fightinâ where you shouldnât’ve been fightinâ
And now, you need some help from this princess
These boots are made for battle
And thatâs just what theyâll do
One of these days these boots are gonna kick a hole in you
I am woman, watch me soar
Big golden shield and a broadsword!
Amazonian with power to defend
Send your villains to my shore
Iâll leave them bloodied, bruised, and sore
Send them running back into the world of men
If I have to
I can do anything
I am strong (strong!)
My jetâs invisible (invisible!)
I am woman…
Some boys fly and some boys buy
But they wonât save the day (no way!)
But I will, a demigodess
Sculpture made of clay-ay
Cause we all live in, a Themysciran world
And Iâm a Themysciran girl
You know that we all live in a Themysciran world
And Iâm a Themysciran girl
When I lasso you!
Youâre lyinâ days are through
Ainât no way to hide
Secrets deep inside
An evil scheme youâre keepinâ from me
Then instantly will be revealed, ’cause
Iâm Wonder Woman
Canât lie to me
Anything I wanna know baby
Youâll tell me easily
WHOA WHOA WHOA WHOA
STOP
Thereâs no one I canât beat or slay
Baby
My Ti-a-ra-aa
And my gold bracelets will deflect your blades
Baby
You might think that I wonât make it
On my own
But now Iâm stronger than DOOMSDAY
Brought to life by Aphrodi-TAY
The daughter of Hippolyta is here
I…Iâm…
Who bring the thunder…(girls)
Who save the world? (girls) Who save the world? (girls)
Who save the world? (girls) Who save the world? (girls)
Shout out to Wonder (girls) We bring the thunder (girls)
Shout out to Wonder (girls) We bring the thunder (girls)
Who save the world? (girls) Who save the world? (girls)
Who save the world? (girls) Who save the world? (girls)
We are queens
What do we want?
To save the world
(who bring the thunder)
We are queens
What do we want?
To save the world
WHO SAVE THE WORLD? (girls)
