Bethesda just dropped news today that would make any inglorious “basterd” and/or retro gamer crack a smile: Wolfenstein: The New Order just got slated to land in the U.S. and Europe on May 20 and 23, respectively, and will be packaged with beta access to the upcoming Doom game if you pre-order.
Yeah, about this Doom game Bethesda’s chirping about: That pretty much came out of nowhere, right? The last we heard of Doom was back in 2008, when the game ran under the title Doom 4, so this officially confirms that id Software is still working on the game, and we’ll receive more details on the beta soon via Bethesda’s official Wolfenstein website.
Wolfenstein: The New Order is being developed by MachineGames, a studio founded by exiting members of the studio that brought us Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay, which is regarded by many as a classic in the FPS genre. As with its predecessors, the game will be centered around combating the Nazi regime, who in an alternate history have won World War II. The New Order is set to hit the PS4, PS3, Xbox One, 360 and PC platforms.
