Win/Win/Fail, Episode I

It’s time for Win/Win/Fail! Three technological oddities, two of them awesome, and one of them totally dumb. Here we gooooooooo!

WIN: Paintable Android Figurine

Whether you carry around an iPhone or a Droid, you can’t deny that this little guy is awesome. Android passed the iPhone in new subscribers this year, and now they’ve passed them in omgsocute-ness. Here are some of Gizmodo’s ideas for the figurine:

WIN: Hawk Eye RC Chopper (with spy camera!)

RC helicopters are old news, but this one allows you to become your own recon and intelligence bureau with a built-in camera. It can snap still photos and take video, all at your command via the Dualshock-looking remote control. (Image via Air Hogs)

FAIL: Roboscooper aka Dude, You’re Way Too Lazy

Don’t be fooled by the fact that the Roboscooper has infrared sensors that find objects on the ground and picks them up. The Roboscooper is worthless, and it should not be encouraged. Do not give the Roboscooper any praise after it picks up an item of one ounce or less (that’s all it can lift) off of your floor and puts it on its back. The Roboscooper is weak. When the robot uprising begins, the Roboscooper will not kill any humans. It will be relegated to picking up remains after the battle. Do not let the Roboscooper interact with your Roomba, or they will get ideas. Roboscooper costs $70, and is in no way worth that much money.

Fail, Roboscooper. Fail.

  1. Jacob says:

    MANHACKS! Where’s my crowbar?

  2. andoran_g33k says:

Are you kidding? Roboscooper is awesome! It would make a great present for that guy in Dr. So-and-So’s lab that got the travel scholarship you’ve been wanting for months without trying! Just to show that there’s no hard feelings, you know? I bet Roboscooper could carry pipettors!

  3. NeuroMan42 says:

    Roboscooper = Robo-Turd burglar.

  4. Tuomas says:

    Andy:
I like it. It gives a feeling that Fail is behind a tree with a baseball bat waiting for you to walk by. Though, it could also be with a sword, then divided by Fail would be easy to understand.

    Rose:
I would not have dared either to post my previous post anywhere else than here.

  5. Rose says:

I thought that win^2 would make it winn. So win win should be (win)^2 ?
(PS. I’d hesitate to post that anywhere else but since this is ‘nerdist’, I feel safe).

  6. SeanB says:

Re-engineer that roboscooper to run on a lawn and pick up dog isht and it would be a major win for my place.

  7. jessica says:

everything about this article is so awesome i’m hyperventilating from nerd excitement (tmC.Hardwick), but in particular the comment exchange between Tuomas and Andy is so good it’s reached “reach for my inhaler” levels of awesomeosity.

and now i’m late for work.

  8. Maybe I should write it out more grammatically, like Win, Win, FAIL.

Mathematically, I would go with win^2-fail. First win, awesome. Second win, wow, so much awesome stuff in this article that it’s exponentially better. Then, the fail totally ruins the momentum and subtracts from all the win.

  9. Tuomas says:

    Chris:

Actually, not to kill your idea; but to kill your idea, isn’t win/win/fail =
(win/win) * (1/fail) = 1/fail, an answer which I have no idea what it means.

On a slightly more serious note, (Win^2)Fail is better as it makes clear what is multiplied by fail. Though, then again, what happens to anything when it is multiplied by fail?

  10. Chris Hardwick says:

I love “Win/Win/Fail”! I want to see more of that business in the future! Now I want to make a shirt that says “(Win^2)Fail” or would it be “Win^2*Fail”?

  11. Ian says:

Roboscooper… give it a mouth and suddenly your options are …
Wait forget I said that, I agree totally useless. The Roboscooper in no way resembles anything at all reo…. Forget I said that said as wll.

  12. I feel like my cat would really enjoy the Roboscooper, if he could ride around on it’s back. Which I would make him do whether he wanted to or not.

  13. @Alex: I know, right? All my dreams have come true.

@Rhacodactylus: NO! THAT’S HOW HE GETS YOU!

  14. Alex Cortez says:

Wow, I need to get me a Hawk Eye! That’s every dream I ever had as a child that is now a reality. Thanks for posting, Andy.

  15. I don’t know how you can bash the Roboscooper like that when it’s clear that all the little guy wants is a hug =/
