Windows 10 Confirmed for Summer 2015 Release

Windows 10 is slated to release this summer, as revealed by Microsoft Executive Terry Myerson in a recent announcement post. The operating system will be rolled out to 190 countries and in 111 different languages. Unfortunately, all we have for now is a release window, since an official launch date has yet to be confirmed.

Windows 10 will be available as a free upgrade for the first year to anyone who owns a computer running on Windows 7 or Windows 8.1. Notable tidbits to be included with the launch of the new OS are Direct X 12, which boasts improved resource and CPU core management, as well as a new Xbox app that promises to intertwine the ecosystem between the console and PC in a more seamless fashion.

During GDC, Phil Spencer laid out Microsoft’s cross-platform initiative with Windows 10, touting features like cross-buy–which allows purchased content on Windows 10 to be accessed across all platforms–Window’s Universal App Platform, and tons of plans for the Minecraft brand. From an indie gaming standpoint, Windows 10 is looking mighty promising, with over 1000 development studios having the latest kits within their ranks.

As long as they add the ability to stream my media from my computer to my XBox One as easily as I could on the 360 I’ll be happy

Really smart of them to release free to to Windows 7 users as well as 8. I also think that a one year window to upgrade is quite fair.

What happened to windows 9? Did it become self aware and have to be destroyed? Thus far Microsoft has not denied this story. Just sayin.

I really like 10, its got all the improvements of 8, without a lot of the nonsense that irritated people.

Thank you, I was wanting to know if anyone had tried it yet. I think I will still be hesitant for a couple months after release before I upgrade.

Is the 360 involved in any way with the cross platforming? Can I play all my Gears of War games on Windows 10?
