Will Marvel’s Illuminati Join DOCTOR STRANGE on Screen?

With Doctor Strange already garnering strong reviews, plenty of folks are wondering if we could see Strange’s fellow members in the secret society known as the Illuminati when the Sorcerer Supreme returns for an all-but-inevitable sequel film. It’s a topic addressed in today’s Movie Morsels,. Plus, we have the trailer for Arrival, a new international trailer for Logan, and oh so much more for you to start your weekend off with a great big smile…

Doctor Strange

Are we really only two weeks away from seeing Benedict Cumberbatch make his debut as Earth’s one and only Sorcerer Supreme? And do we really still have to get through Halloween and Election Day in order to do so?! Well, at least we can take comfort in the fact that Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige is so confident we’ll like Doctor Strange that he’s already addressing questions concerning whether or not the Illuminati will visit Stephen Strange’s world in his second film.

“What’s fun about the Illuminati,” said Feige at yesterday’s LA press conference for Strange, “is seeing certain characters interact with certain other characters. I don’t know about that particular storyline, but some of those characters we’ll be seeing together onscreen in the next Avengers… We’re taking it one step at a time. Benedict puts on the cloak once again early next year in Infinity War.”

For more Strange fun, we’ve got three clips from the good Doctor’s film for your viewing enjoyment. They feature Rachel McAdams’ Christine Palmer, Tilda Swinton’s Ancient One, and Chiwetel Ejiofor’s Mordo, joining Strange in a desperate battle within his Sanctum…

Logan

If you enjoyed yesterday’s debut of the very first trailer for the third Wolverine solo film, then you owe it to yourself to check out the first international trailer for Logan. It’s got the first really concrete video evidence as to why this movie will be Wolvie’s first to receive an R-rating…

Arrival

Hey, speaking of kick-ass trailers… The Amy Adams starrer Arrival is showing every possible sign of being this year’s thinking person’s science-fiction epic. The film’s new trailer definitely supports this, as well as what we’ve been hearing since Arrival debuted at last month’s Venice Film Festival: that it’s is a satisfying trip for both the mind and the heart …

Aquaman

Director James Wan‘s Aquaman movie is far and away the wild card of the DC Extended Universe, one that could be either completely terrible or utterly terrific. But if Wan’s last action fest, Furious 7, is any sort of indication, then I’m leaning on the latter. In any case, Wan has a few words to say about Arthur Curry’s first solo film in a new interview with Entertainment Tonight

“The spirit that I’m going for is like a classic sort of swashbuckling action adventure, sort of high seas adventure story,” says Wan, “It’s ultimately a quest story in the spirit of Raiders of the Lost Ark meets Romancing the Stone.”

As for Aquaman and Amber Herd’s Mera making their debut in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, Wan remarks, “I think Amber and Jason Momoa, in their moments in Justice League, [are] going to give the rest of the world a flavor of what their own standalone movie could be. And that is just scratching the surface of what I plan to do.”

Murder on the Orient Express

Last but not least today, another favorite character actor is boarding the titular train in the new Agatha Christie adaptation Murder on the Orient Express. Josh Gad, star of FX’s short-lived The Comedians (pictured above) and a little family film called Frozen, has signed on to star alongside Johnny Depp, Daisy Ridley, Judi Dench, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Michael Pena. Gad is set to play Hector MacQueen, described by Variety as “a nervous, skittish man who drinks too much. He’s gifted with languages and works as an assistant/translator to Depp’s Ratchett character.” In other words, Olaf is Captain Jack’s new sidekick!
