A WILE E. COYOTE Movie Is Now in Development

Ah, that crazy coyote. He may never catch the Road Runner, but it looks like he’s caught the showbiz bug in a big way, as Warner Bros. is currently developing a new movie centered around him. Uncharacteristically, it’s not called Road Runner, but rather Coyote vs. Acme. Right off the bat, that sounds like a court case, and one fans have joked over the years is long overdue: defective Acme products have caused Wile E. Coyote so many injuries he’s probably bankrupt a million times over from Toon Town hospital bills. (No way dude can get insurance with his track record.)

Deadline is reporting that Jon and Josh Silberman, the writer-producer team from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Living Biblically, are writing the script, with The LEGO Batman Movie‘s Chris McKay producing. Wile E. Coyote’s previous big-screen credits include Looney Tunes: Back in Action, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Space Jam, and The Bugs Bunny/Road Runner Movie. This will be his first lead role. (Nerdist has reached out for independent confirmation, but not received comment as of publish time.)

If you’re wondering how a non-speaking character can hold the screen, it’s worth remembering that Wile E. can talk–there’s just never any point in communicating with a bird that speaks only in beeps (or is it meeps? Nobody knows). When he wasn’t pursuing birds on desert highways, Mr. Coyote took on Bugs Bunny, and was quite the silver-tongued con artiste in the process.

Given his propensity for using explosives, however, it seems likely that even if a court case is the movie’s framing device, it’ll be all-out war by the end, which is unlikely to be happy for our protagonist, but who knows? Maybe fate will be kind just this once

What do you think of a Wile E. Coyote movie? Who should costar? Let us know in comments.
