Okay, first things first: we hope the U2 frontman’s arm heals quickly, and that he is back in action soon. The weekend before U2 was slated to have a weeklong residency on The Tonight Show to promote their universally scorned Songs Of Innocence LP, Bono took a tumble while biking through Central Park and busted up his arm something nasty. So, no U2 on Fallon.

But the show must go on, as they say. After wishing his Irish friend well, The Tonight Show host donned Bono’s signature grandma shades (which he does in fact use for a medical condition, so like, don’t be too mean) and cap before breaking into an astonishingly good cover of U2’s “Desire” with The Roots.

I guess this should not be that surprising given how good at impressions Fallon is, but this is way more immersive than even his Neil Young impression. He has to be in sync with the rest of the band and concentrate on his vocals while Kirk Douglass is singing harmony. That harmonica solo? Come on, dude! And none of this is to mention Fallon’s natural showmanship. Fallon can really cut rug–perhaps he learned his moves during the Blue Oyster Cult recording sessions under the aegis of Christopher Walken.
