What To Expect From The VGX Awards Saturday Night

Saturday night, video games will once again be honored via national broadcast courtesy of the folks at Spike TV. Their three-hour VGX award show will be live streamed starting at 6pm ET. Deeming itself the next generation of the Video Game Awards show, the VGX show aims to ditch the previous Hollywood-style show format for a method that’s a little more relatable to the game culture. This means we’ll be seeing a crap-ton of new game trailers and even several new game reveals. Here’s a look at what to expect from tonight’s show:

  • An exclusive look at the new Thief game
  • New Tomb Raider announcement
  • Reggie Fils-Aime to make a special Nintendo reveal
  • Inside look at Remedy’s Xbox One exclusive Quantum Break
  • More on South Park and the Stick Of Truth
  • Exclusive premiere of Destiny
  • Tim Schafer to reveal his new project Broken Age
  • New Dying Light Demo
  • New footage of Tom Clancy’s: The Division
  • Titanfall World Premiere
  • New The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt trailer
  • Three brand new game world premieres

As you can see, there’s going to be a lot to watch out for tonight, and this is excluding the actual awards that are going to be presented tonight. I’ve been extremely critical of the VGAs in the past, asserting that while it is great to see video games being recognized on such a grand stage, the event has always been glamorized in a fashion that is out of touch with the game medium as a whole. I was never fond of the Hollywood-style presentation that seemed to focus more on who was presenting the honors and not what was actually being honored. But the VGX Awards seem to be taking a step in the right direction, and I’m excited to show my support for the honoring of the game medium’s superlatives and this new format in which they will be honored tonight.

You can catch the live stream at http://vgxlive.com or catch them on Twitch TV, free of commercial breaks.
