After Dragon Ball Z finished its run in 1996, many anime fans thought that they had seen the last of Akira Toriyama’s shÅnen saga. Yesterday, we realized that we hadn’t even seen its final form because Toei Animation announced that, for the first time in nearly two decades, a brand new Dragon Ball series is on the way! They say that good things come to those who wait, and Dragon Ball fans have been waiting 18 long years to see the series’ unique brand of high-flying fisticuffs and gravity-defying hairdos back on their TVs.
Titled Dragon Ball Super–at least in Japan, it is–the new series is set to debut this July, which means that it’s right around the corner! So little time, so much excitement–what’s a diehard DBZ-head to do? Simple, you watch Nerdist News. Our very own pop culture super saiyan Jessica Chobot is here to save the day with all the details about what you can expect from the sequel series, who’s involved behind the scenes, and what it means for series canon. (Like the fact that it’s a direct sequel, for starters.) Tune into today’s episode to get the who, what, when, where, why, and whoa of Dragon Ball Super, then head to the Hyperbolic Time Chamber and start training like a madman until July. Just make sure that you have wi-fi in there; you wouldn’t want to miss a single episode of Nerdist News, after all.
