What If STRANGER THINGS Was an ’80s Sitcom?

We, like most of the world, have been riding that Stranger Things high since it came out a few weeks back, and the chief complaint we had is that it’s not a few episodes longer! We just love spending time with those characters in that weird and creepy world of telekinesis, interdimensional Quija boards, and Upside Down monsters with big, floppy tooth faces. It doesn’t even have to be a sci-fi horror show; we’d watch people in Hawkins in any genre. To that end, YouTuber Tim Bennett has created a faux ’80s sitcom opening credit sequence, and it’s perfect.

One of the hallmarks of the series is that for all the scares and high drama, there’s a lot of funny in there too. Hell, every single time Hopper (David Harbour) seems like he’s going to talk his way out of a situation but just knocks people out instead, I laughed with increasing regularity. And, naturally, all the kids have some hilarity to them, because otherwise how would they get anything done? They’d just be yelling at each other the whole time. Dustin. Man, can he be our best friend/little brother/spiritual guru?

Incredibly fittingly, Bennett uses the song “Strange Things” by Randy Newman from the first Toy Story movie to score the opening and it feels perfect apt even before the chorus comes in. Just applause all around, and just like the real show, Bennett doesn’t have Matthew Modine in it too much…and he doesn’t say anything. Man, Modine must have had the easiest time learning lines. Anyway.
