Drone flying has become so commonplace these days, that apparently some people just needed to kick it up a notch. While some have decided to create high-speed racing tournaments with drones, others have decided to push it in a different direction.
Everyone has wondered what it would be like to fly at some point, but only some people are willing to strap a whole bunch of small propellers to a metal frame and launch 10 feet off the ground.
It is probably safe to assume the contraption in the above video is called The Swarm because all of those rotors combining to make a terrifying buzzing sound like a cloud of angry bees. One can only assume how loud they must be when sitting in the little seat in the middle of it.
The channel, gasturbine101, has a few videos of the machine in prototype stages. One also shows when The Swarm was still remote-controlled. Other than that the entire channel is dedicated to videos of Gas Turbines. Yes, it is the most literal channel name ever.
The British duo from gasturbine101 are not the first to tackle the concept of a manned flight with a home-made multirotor vehicle. This video of an attempt from Germany in 2011 boasts that title, which very obviously started a backyard obsession that has stretched across YouTube, as well as the world. I wouldn’t be surprised if one of these backyard inventors brings about the next Tesla Motors.
Would you buy a personal multirotor copter? Of course you would, but help validate my assumption in the comments below!
