WET HOT AMERICAN SUMMER: TEN YEARS LATER Coming to Netflix

We don’t know if you’re a Netflix subscriber or not, but they are definitely making it “your beeswax” to be one. In the most exciting news of the day, the streaming company has announced they are heading back to the best/worst children’s summer camp in rural Maine yet again.

The streaming service announced today that they have ordered a second Wet Hot American Summer series, this time as a sequel to the original film, titled Ten Years Later. The setting is in reference to a scene at the very end of the movie (after the credits), in which the counselors all satisfy the agreement they made to come back “10 years from today”—meaning, 1991, in their “late 20s”—to see “what type of people” they would have “blossomed into.”

(If you’ve never seen the deleted scenes from the movie, the above includes an amazing payoff to a weird story that didn’t make the cut of the released film. You should definitely check it out.)

Deadline is reporting that, like the 2015 prequel series Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp, the new miniseries will have an eight-episode run. It is also fair to guess that, like the movie and the first season, it will all take place on one day. David Wain and Michael Showalter are again writing the series, with Wain in the director’s chair like he was for the movie and First Day of Camp.

Considering everyone, even young actors that went on to become mega-stars like Paul Rudd, Bradley Cooper, Elizabeth Banks, and Amy Poehler, came back for the series, we’re going to guess almost all if not the entire cast will be back this time too. There was room for plenty of new additions for First Day of Camp, so the amazing cast might only get bigger.

This is all sorts of awesome, and exactly what fans (like myself) were hoping we might see happen. The series is planned to hit Netflix at some point in 2017; we’ll be there, and we’ll aim for 9:00 to make a day of it.
