The WESTWORLD Creators Just Rickrolled Us, Big Time

You’d think by now the Rickroll craze would be over, but leave it to the creators of Westworld to not only show that it is still alive and well, but to raised the bar when it came to performing the prank.

On Monday, we reported that showrunners Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy were threatening to post on Reddit every spoiler and major plot point from their series’ upcoming second season. (The mentality: If fans want to be spoiled they would have a safe, contained space they can go to get any and all the information they want.) As we first saw at The Wrap, HBO posted a 25-minute-long video that was to supposedly reveal everything happening this season. The bravest among us tested the waters, only to find out what was really at play here:

After a short monologue from Jeffery Wright, we’re thrown right over to Evan Rachel Wood singing “Never Gonna Give You Up” with fellow castmate Angela Sarafyan on piano. Following what is admittedly a really good version of the song, it fades to a 23-minute black and white shot of a cute dog at a piano, the Westworld theme playing on a loop.

So there you have it. We are pretty sure that’s about as much as we are going to get spoiler-wise from the creators of Westworld. With a show like this, do we really want to be spoiled anyway?

So what do you think? Did Nolan and Joy give the internet a comeuppance it deserved? Are you even more excited for season two? Let me know on Twitter @donnielederer or sound off in the comments below. Westworld season two premieres on HBO on Apr. 22!
