We’re About to Get a Bunch of THE FORCE AWAKENS Deleted Scenes

Do you realize how far away December 17, 2017, the release date for Star Wars: Episode VIII, really is? That is 660 days of not knowing what is going to happen to Rey, Poe, Finn, and old, sad, bearded Luke. We’re going to need some sustenance to survive that long, which is why this news about how we are getting a bunch of deleted scenes from The Force Awakens just might be the taste we need to satiate our Star Wars craving.

The Independent spoke with the film’s editors, Mary Jo Markey and Maryann Brandon, who said that when the movie is released on DVD and Blu-ray it will contain seven deleted scenes. Even though they were told by Disney to stop talking about them, they did say one includes Han Solo and another includes Rey.

Brandon also said that while the omitted scenes are “fun,” none of them were “necessary.” That shouldn’t come as a surprise, as director J.J. Abrams has already said there will not be any sort of Director’s Cut when the movie is released for home viewing purposes. He was able to put out the movie he wanted to.

Deleted scenes are usually deleted for a very good reason, often because they just weren’t good or they didn’t enhance the story, but that doesn’t mean we won’t obsess over them and try to use them to figure out where the next two movies in the Skywalker family saga are headed.

What character or storyline from The Force Awakens did you think needed an extra scene or two? Don’t omit your thoughts from our comments section below.
