“Weird Al” Yankovic to Voice Lead in New Disney XD Show

It’s pretty amazing to me how relevant–and in many ways better–“Weird Al” Yankovic is today. I remember getting my first album by him (1996’s Bad Hair Day) and being immediately sucked into this comedic and musical wonderland of back albums, MTV specials, and even a Saturday morning kids show for a hot second. Now, 20 years later and he’s just had his first #1 album (Mandatory Fun, which is indeed mandatory and fun), he’s been announced as the new sidekick/band leader for Comedy Bang Bang, and today we learn he’s going to voice the lead character in a new Disney XD animated show. I mean, he’s more in-demand than he’s ever been!

The show is titled Milo Murphy’s Law and Yankovic will be playing the titular Milo who is “the optimistic distant grandson of the famed Murphy’s Law namesake.” Murphy’s Law, if you don’t know, is the uplifting adage that whatever can go wrong will go wrong. Variety is reporting that not only will the multi-Grammy-winner provide the voice, he’ll also perform the show’s theme tune, so expect some kind of speedily sung, accordion-heavy number.

The show, which also will star Christian Slater, Vanessa Williams, and Sarah Chalke, has a pretty great concept for a show: “follow the adventures of Milo and his best friends Melissa and Zack as they attempt to embrace life’s catastrophes with positive attitudes and enthusiasm.” That sounds really great already. It’ll surely have some absurdity and we’re guessing some pretty frequent catastrophes, but with a distinctly sunny outlook. Sounds like the making of a great show if you ask me!

As previously mentioned, Yankovic is no stranger to children’s programming. In late 1997 and ’98, Al starred in The Weird Al Show, a super nutso take on the Pee-wee’s Playhouse vibe, which also had a hell of an opening theme:

What do you think about a cartoon starring “Weird Al?” Will you watch the madness? Let us know in the comments below!
