Itâs been an interesting week for musician Weird Al. It almost seemed impossible that the artist would be revealing not just one but a slew of music videos in his #8videos8days project, but thatâs exactly what he did for tracks including âTacky,â âFoil,â âHandy,â âSports Song,â âFirst World Problems,â âLame Claim to Fameâ and âWord Crimes.â Today, the amazing marketing campaign for the musicianâs latest album, Mandatory Fun, comes to an end with the final video of the set, âMission Statement,â done in the style of Crosby, Stills & Nash. Check it out:
NOTE:Â Like the video for “First World Problems,” this embed will not work until tomorrow. For now, feel free to head over to the The Wallstreet Journal to view the video.
Thereâs something to respect about how many videos released this week donât actually feature Weird Al but are rather some nifty animated things. There was âWord Crimes,â which was done in a flash animation style, the stop-motion style in “Lame Claim to Fame,” and now this fast-forward hand drawn style for âMission Statement.â The amount of work it takes to pull off something like this is intense, so props to Weird Al for finding the very talented people that could pull it off.
All in all, the real winners this week are Weird Al fans. Itâs been three years since his last album, and this was a great way to be reminded of how much we love the artistâs work. We donât when there will be more Weird Al in the future (this canât really be the end, can it?), but we hope itâs soon.
What do you think of the new video for âMission Statement?â Which video was your favorite this past week? Let us know in the comments below.
Just watched “Word Crimes” and noticed you missed a word in your article. Sorry, couldn’t resist! “We don’t _____ when there…”
why is it saying that the video isn’t being released until 7/22/14 3:00 am?
Was released exclusively by the Wall Street Journal. You can find it there or wait til tomorrow to find it here.
Although not my favorite, I think this is great and especially the artwork. I would love to know who the artist was.
It was done by TruScribe, who mostly makes whiteboard videos like these for corporate presentations, so it was definitely fitting.
This was good, but by far, my winner was Word Crimes. It was genius!
I like this one a lot, but my vote goes to Lame Claim to Fame. It is just brilliant
I liked this video the best of the bunch.
